A century-old Hunter Valley winery experiences a modern-day revival. Take a look inside Mount Pleasant Wines by Luchetti Krelle.

Nestled amidst the charming vineyards of Mount Pleasant Wines’ historic estate is their newly refurbished Cellar Door, a project undertaken by the Sydney-based architecture and interior design firm, Luchetti Krelle. We’ve worked with the team at Luchetti Krelle on a number of impressive hospitality projects over the years (read about Bathers’ Pavilion if you haven’t already) and their latest, Mount Pleasant Wines, is just as exemplary.

Mount Pleasant Wines’ historic homestead at Marrowbone Road was the subject of the refurbishment. After significant research of colonial homesteads, Luchetti Krelle took the dated structure and created their own modern adaptation of an Australian homestead.

Warmth and character exude inside; the cellar door and wine shop spaces feel approachable and welcoming, with an air of familiarity. Inside the barn portion of the building, furniture has been used to break up the open plan space offering a number of different dining options. Here you’ll find Diane Bergeron for Arthur G Louise and Collette Sofas, Collette Chairs and Pauline Chairs in a thoughtfully curated blend of plain and patterned upholsteries.

In the cellar door and wine shop areas, you’ll find a striking blend of contemporary art juxtaposed against the building’s more colonial features. Overhead, two captivating photographs by the talented Australian artist Petrina Hicks adorn the space, complementing the soft blush pink Pauline Chairs from the Diane Bergeron Collection. The Pauline Chairs, with their timeless silhouette and plush feather t-cushion, are an excellent option for this relaxed dining arrangement.

When you next find yourself in the Hunter Valley, be sure to make a stop at Mount Pleasant Wines. Whether it’s for the interiors or the inviting cellar door, a wonderful experience awaits.

Mount Pleasant Wines by Luchetti Krelle was shortlisted for Best Bar Design at the 2022 Eat Drink Design awards.
